In the mood of celebration of the 10th anniversary of Skype , VP Microsoft for Skype companies , gave Mark Gillette candid interview to the BBC which noted that the company is working on 3D screens and 3D capture technology.

“We’ve done work in the laboratories of looking at the ability to 3D screens and 3D capture ,” said Gillette.
“We’ve seen a lot of progress in the screens and a lot of people now buy TVs and computer monitors that are capable of rendering 3D image.

However , he said Gillette , who joined Skype in 2010 before he was acquired by Microsoft, to develop and transfer technology to the masses will take more time.
“But the capture devices are not there yet. We are working with this type of technology you have to add multiple cameras to your computer , carefully calibrated to them and guide them in the right corner.”
“We have in the laboratory , and we know how to make it work and we ‘re looking at the ecosystem of devices and their ability to support them in order to make a decision when we might think about bringing something like this to the market,” he said.
And live video calls need several 3D cameras to capture all angles, and there is no any good 3D display devices that make 3D without the user having to wear special glasses. That would work Skype will not be easy.

“We’re in the first year of your television at home is likely a camera attached to it , but we are away several years of cameras capture 3D in this context. ‘See much more penetration of 3D on TVs, and computers and smartphones eventually , probably, by the vision to send a video call ,”and put Gillette.

3D technology has not really taken off at the level of the current suffering from problems such as the lack of good content , or the lack of glass less 3D hardware plaguing the entertainment industry.

Broadcasters such as ESPN and Disney channels is canceled 3D TV and 3D home entertainment devices do not sell as much as expected them to sell the device makers.
